Interviewing and Selecting

Target Audience:  Managers and Supervisors

Length:  ½ day to one day

Key Issues Addressed:  Attracting and selecting candidates who are motivated and capable of performing at high levels is difficult, even for experienced managers.  Most managers have a general idea what kind of person they want to hire.  Unfortunately, having a general idea is not sufficient. 

Program Overview: We recommend that it be customized to each organizations hiring issues and system. Specifically, we provide participants with a tailored sequence of activities that help them:

  • Analyze the Past – Examine successful and unsuccessful past hires to define the key characteristics that are predictive of success.
  • Profile the Ideal Candidate – Develop a detailed profile of the ideal candidate by job.
  • Plan Effective Questions – Develop performance-based questions geared to collect concrete evidence that a candidate possesses the essential motivation and qualities needed to match the job requirements.
  • Develop An Interview and Evaluation Strategy – Plan effect and legal interviews that help you evaluate each candidate in detail against the selection criteria you have development and help each candidate honestly assess whether the position is one he/she really wants and is suited for.

 Program Design: 

Take Home Value:  Each manager leaves the workshop with a hiring plan for a specific position.  In addition, the seminar workbook is designed so managers can use it effectively after the seminar when they are interviewing candidates.
